Fasto A348 – Fast-Curing Retaining Compound for Cylindrical Metal Assemblies

Fasto A348 is a single-component, high-strength anaerobic retaining compound designed for bonding, retaining, and sealing close-fitting cylindrical metal parts. It cures in the absence of air when confined between metal surfaces, delivering reliable strength and durability for industrial assemblies.

As a fast-curing grade, Fasto A348 develops strength quickly and withstands higher service temperatures than standard retaining products, making it suitable for demanding mechanical environments.

Key Features

  • High Retaining Strength
Shear strength up to 26 N/mm² for secure assemblies.
  • Anaerobic Cure Technology
Cures only between metal parts, ensuring controlled application.
  • Fast Strength Build-Up
    Fixture time around 10 minutes.
  • Good Temperature Resistance
Continuous service from -50°C to +150°C, intermittent up to +175°C.
  • Small Gap Filling Capability
Suitable for gaps up to 0.20 mm.
  • Corrosion Protection
Prevents fretting and corrosion between assembled components.
  • Assembly Lubrication Effect
Parts slide together easily before cure.

Benefits

  • Provides secure retention of gears, rotors, and shafts
  • Enhances strength of press-fit assemblies
  • Reduces reliance on mechanical locking methods
  • Improves reliability under vibration and thermal variation
  • Delivers long service life in industrial applications

Surface Preparation

  • Ensure parts are clean, dry, and free from oil, grease, dust, and contaminants.
  • Proper cleaning is critical for achieving maximum strength.

Application Method

  1. Apply Fasto A348 evenly to all engaged surfaces.
  2. Assemble the parts immediately.
  3. Allow the joint to cure under anaerobic (air-excluded) conditions.
  4. Wipe off excess adhesive from the outside of the joint.

Curing Guidelines

  • Fixture time: ~10 minutes
  • Full cure: 12 hours
  • Maximum recommended gap: 0.20 mm

Additional Notes

  • Cure speed depends on temperature, bond gap, and substrate type.
  • On inert metals (e.g., stainless steel, zinc-plated parts) or at temperatures below 5°C, use Fasto AP49 Activator to accelerate cure (may reduce final strength by up to 30%).
  • Not recommended for certain plastics due to possible stress cracking.
