Fasto A418 – Medium Strength Anaerobic Form-In-Place Gasket

Fasto A418 is a single-component, medium-strength anaerobic gasket compound designed as a form-in-place gasket (FIPG) for rigid metal flanges and flat mating surfaces. It cures in the absence of air when confined between close-fitting metal surfaces, forming a flexible, vibration-resistant, and leak-proof seal.

With its very high viscosity, thixotropic formulation, Fasto A418 stays exactly where applied and delivers an almost instant low-pressure seal (up to 0.5 bar in ~20 minutes), allowing early on-line pressure testing.

Surface Preparation

  • Ensure flange surfaces are clean, dry, and free from oil, grease, and contaminants.
  • Trials are recommended to confirm if additional cleaning is required.

Application Method

  1. Apply Fasto A418 evenly to all engaged sealing areas.
  2. Assemble parts immediately to exclude air from the joint.
  3. Tighten fasteners as per assembly specifications.
  4. Allow curing under anaerobic (air-excluded) conditions.
  5. Wipe off excess material from the outside of the joint.

Curing Guidelines

  • Fixture time: 4–10 minutes
  • Functional seal: up to 0.5 bar in ~20 minutes
  • Full cure: 12 hours
  • Maximum recommended gap: 0.5 mm

Additional Notes

  • Cure speed depends on temperature, bond gap, and substrate.
  • At temperatures below 5°C, use Fasto AP49 or AP69 Activator to accelerate curing (activator may reduce final strength by up to 30%).
  • Anaerobic products are not recommended for pure oxygen or chlorine systems.
  • Not recommended for certain plastics due to possible stress cracking.
