Fasto A474 – Medium Strength Anaerobic Flange Sealant Form-In-Place Gasket

Fasto A474 is a single-component, medium strength, fast-curing anaerobic gasket compound designed as a form-in-place gasket (FIPG) for rigid metal flanges and flat mating surfaces. It cures in the absence of air when confined between close-fitting metal surfaces, forming a durable, vibration-resistant, and leak-proof seal.

Its thixotropic, non-drip formulation ensures clean application without run-off, while providing an almost instant low-pressure seal, enabling early on-line pressure testing.

Surface Preparation

  • Ensure mating surfaces are clean, dry, and free from grease, oil, and contaminants.
  • Trials are recommended to determine if additional cleaning is required.

Application Method

  1. Apply Fasto A474 evenly to all sealing areas.
  2. Assemble parts immediately to exclude air.
  3. Tighten fasteners as per assembly specifications.
  4. Allow curing under anaerobic (air-excluded) conditions.
  5. Wipe off excess material from the outside of the joint.

Curing Guidelines

  • Fixture time: 4–10 minutes
  • Low-pressure seal: up to 0.5 bar in ~20 minutes
  • Full cure: 12 hours
  • Maximum recommended gap: 0.35 mm

Additional Notes

  • Cure speed depends on temperature, bond gap, and substrate.
  • At temperatures below 5°C or on inert metals, use Fasto AP49 Activator to accelerate cure (activator may reduce final strength by up to 25%).
  • Anaerobic products are not recommended for pure oxygen or chlorine systems.
  • Not recommended for certain plastics due to potential stress cracking.
